HOW TO PROMOTE YOUR STORE ONLINE

HOW TO PROMOTE YOUR STORE ONLINE

There are many different ways to promote your online business. With a little energy and creativity, you can market your business widely and without a great deal of expense. Using paid ads, social media and listing sites can greatly increase your presence and help drive traffic towards your site. An effective and clear online marketing strategy should take into account all the various ways in which you can engage with your customers online.

STEP ONE – USING ONLINE ADVERTISING

  1. Consider pay-per-click advertising. One way to very quickly increase your web presence is by using pay-per-click advertising to have your business appear prominently in search engine results. This is probably the quickest way to promote your business, but is also probably the most expensive. You will need to budget carefully and ensure you make the most of any paid ads.
  • Pay-per-click ads are sold by auction so they can get very expensive very quickly.
  • If you do get one, create a strong landing page for people who click through.
  • Ensure you have the systems in place to analyse the amount of traffic and custom you receive through your ad. You need this information to evaluate whether it was worth the investment.
  1. Join listing sites. Listing sites are essentially online databases which make large numbers of companies easily accessible and searchable. There are a number of major listing sites which are likely to appear higher up in search engine results than your own site. For this reason it’s important to maximise your presence on these heavily frequented sites. Many listing sites are free to join and can direct a lot of traffic your way so you should take advantage of this.
  • You may already have been added to listings and review sites by a customer, but by taking charge of your presence you can control how your business is presented.
  • See which listings sites are most prominent in your field of business simply by searching online and writing down which ones come high in the results.
  1. Connect with web affiliates. You can join up with other businesses and develop mutually beneficial relationships. Web affiliates will typically provide links to each other’s stores on their web pages to help direct traffic to your affiliates. This can be particularly effective when the online stores have something in common or sell complementary goods.
  • For example if you sell hair care products you could share links with a store that sells skin care products, and recommend each other’s goods.
  • Only do this with a company you like and trust who share a similarity with you.
  • You can expand these relationships into shared offers and deals if they prove effective and bring in traffic.
  • As well as sharing links, affiliates can agree a deal to sell each other’s products on their site.

STEP TWO – OPTIMISING YOUR STORE FOR SEARCH ENGINE

  1. Understand search engine optimisation (SEO). SEO is a collection of techniques which increase the chances of your site being high up in search results on search engines. Rather than paying for a more prominent position, the practice of SEO can drastically help increase the profile and presence of your online store. It’s free and effective, but it does take a little time to understand the principles of SEO and apply them to your website. Major search engines provide guides to how they work for those wishing to optimise their results.
  • SEO is necessary primarily because of the ubiquity of search engines. Think about how you search for something online.
  • Ask yourself how often you click through past the first couple of pages of results.
  1. Find out the popular key words for your area of business. You probably think you already have a decent idea of the key words that bring traffic to your website, but it’s best not to leave any stone unturned when doing SEO. Use online tools to determine which words bring traffic to your store. There are a few different ways to measure key words.
  • Key word frequency refers to how often a word appears in the title or description of a website. Be aware though, if you have stuffed your site full of key words it may be judged spam.
  • The key word weight is the number of key words in comparison to the total number of words. By having less text on a page, you can achieve a heavier key word weight.
  • The positioning of words in relation to each other is known as key word proximity. For example, if you are selling “black socks”, you will outrank someone selling “black cotton socks” if the search term is “black socks”.
  • Having your key words high up on a page and prominent in headings and the first paragraph of text gives you a good key word prominence score. Similarly, having the words in titles or links can equal good key word placement.
  1. Include key words in your web copy. Once you have a clear picture of the best key words for driving traffic to your site, and how to include them in your web copy and site design it’s time to put this into practice. Give your website a thorough audit revising main sections to make sure they are optimised for key words in frequency, weight, position, prominence and placement.
  • Remember to do this in a considered and careful way. If you load it down with key words out of context your site may be deemed spam and ignored.
  • Put key words in tags, titles, links and high up in copy.

STEP THREE – PROMOTING YOUR STORE WITH SOCIAL MEDIA

  1. Have a strong social media presence. Social media has become an essential element of marketing strategies for most businesses. For an online business it is even more important given the ability to link directly to products and deals on your site, and communicate with a large number of people quickly and effectively. Start your social media marketing campaign with Facebook and Twitter. Ensure you have a good presence and a clear page with links to your products.
  • You will need to post regularly to keep up interest and be generally active following people and events, as well as liking things to make your store more visible.
  • Post links to new products and special offers frequently and engage with your customers.
  1. Run contests or sweepstakes. Running promotions and contests through social media can help you to build up your register of contacts, and create a buzz about your business. It’s important to have a clearly defined objective and audience for your contest, you need to know what you will get from it. You could have a sweepstakes for for those who join a mailing list, offering something for free. In turn you get contact details which you can use for targeted marketing.
  • Before you undertake a contest you need to be fully clued up on all the relevant rules and regulations. The specific terms “contest”, “sweepstakes” and “lottery” have clear definitions which you need to abide by.
  • A contest must have a winner chosen on merit, a sweepstakes winner chosen at random, and for a lottery you must buy a ticket and pay to play.
  1. Use paid ads on social media. On the major social networks you can also buy advertising space to promote your business. This can be cheaper and quicker than more traditional modes of advertising. As with any online ad you need to ensure it is concise and attractive as well as bringing the customer to a good landing page on your store. Be sure you read up on all the specific rules for advertising on before you begin.
  • Promoted tweets can increase your company’s exposure, but it’s important to present these well and include relevant hashtags. As with other online ads, make sure the link you include goes to a landing page with featured products clearly visible.
  1. Expand your social media presence. As well as Facebook and Twitter, there are an increasingly large number of social media outlets that have a huge number of users. Develop a presence on video and photograph-based social media to highlight your products and engage with your customers.
  • If you share a picture of a great new product on Instagram you can get it seen by a lot more people than who would otherwise happen across it.
  • As always it’s crucial that you structure your social media well and it is all connected together across the various platforms. Have an integrated social media strategy.
  • Have clear links from all the different sites to your actual store where customers can buy the goods you have highlighted on social media.
  • Be creative and open-minded about how you present yourself, but ensure there is a common approach that reflects your company and your brand.
  • Use the social media icons and buttons on emails and postings to provide plenty of links and make it easy for people to reach your store.
  1. Write a blog. Having a prominent and well-maintained blog can be a very good way to position yourself as a major player and public voice in your area of business. Not only that, but it is a way to promote your business without paying for advertising. Don’t overdo it on the plugs, but be sure to include a relevant link back to your store in each post. Remember, to get people to read the blog it needs to well-written, informative and interesting.
  • Promote your blog through social networks, and consider it an important part of your social media marketing strategy.
  • As well as writing your own blog, take time to connect with other bloggers. Having links between blogs will only increase the potential traffic to your site and raise your profile.
  • Try to write guest blogs on other forums to reach out to more people, and invite others to do the same on yours.

STEP FOUR – CONNECTING  WITH CUSTOMERS

  1. Maintain a register of customers. Whenever a customer makes an order you will collect their email address so it’s important to keep a good and safe register of your customers’ contact details. In addition to this, you should make it possible for potential customers to easily register with your website using their email address even if they don’t buy anything this time.
  • A register of users is a very useful resource for marketing and surveying your customer base and should be treated as such.
  • You need to guarantee that your customers’ personal and financial details submitted through your website are kept secure.
  1. Send a regular email newsletter. A regular email to all your registered customers can be a very effective way to promote specific products or time-limited special offers. It’s important to exercise careful judgement when sending out unsolicited communications to your customers, as nothing will turn people off as much as spam.
  • You should tightly control your email newsletters, and only send out messages when you have something important to promote.
  • Too frequent emails will be annoying, but too few will mean that they might forget about your store.
  • Ensure that the email is well-crafted and matches the visual theme of your website and branding.
  1. Be active in relevant online discussions. Increase your presence and brand-awareness by getting involved in online discussion groups around relevant topics to your store. For example, if you sell specialist teas you can contribute to forums for tea lovers and enthusiasts. But be sure to tread lightly when you do this. Don’t engage in any hard selling or explicit advertising as it will not go down well.
  • Keep your online store’s URL in your signature, but don’t over-promote your business.
  • Don’t just think of it advertising, but connecting with potential customers. It could give you ideas for new product lines or avenues to explore.
  1. Follow your feedback. Keep a close eye on any feedback you receive on review websites as well as in direct contact with customers. It’s important to know what people are saying and what the perception of your company is. If appropriate, respond politely to feedback and try to resolve any issue quickly and amicably. With social media it’s possible for a minor problem to quickly escalate and gain you unwanted publicity.

HOW TO START SELLING ON EBAY

HOW TO START SELLING ON EBAY

Do you need money to pay off your debt, support your family and live your dream lifestyle? Or peradventure, you need money to celebrate this upcoming Christmas? If that is the case, this is what you must do. Start selling on eBay.

There are a lot of things you can sell on eBay, from your used product to new product. You can sell your old clothes that you no longer use, your books, electronic appliances, or buy at a wholesale price and sell it on eBay.

TO GET STARTED:

  1. Create your account

Creating an eBay account is simple. You will need to create a username, password, and can add a profile picture if you wish. You will also enter your basic personal information such as contact information. At this time, you will need to link up a PayPal account to your seller account as well. eBay guides you through this process painlessly. Once you do, buyers will now have a way to pay you for their purchases.

  1. Browse the categories and decide what to sell

Now you need items to sell. A good idea is to browse the various categories to get an idea of what others are listing. If you have an idea in mind, for example, if you have children’s clothing you wish to sell, look up the same brands and styles to see what it’s fetching. A great idea is to search the “completed listings” by clicking the box on the left of the screen. This way, you can see what items ended at and get a true indication!

If your plan is to sell your used products, for example, your clothes, then there will be no need to browse categories. What you are going to do is to bring out the clothes that you want to sell, wash and starch them.

  1. Take a great picture

Use natural light or a spotlight and plain background to take a clear picture. Take a front photo, a photo of the back of the item, and be sure to photograph any marking such as tags, labels, etc. This way, the buyer will feel confident that they have seen the item as a whole when placing a bid.

  1. Start your listing

You can now start your listing. To do this, choose the category you want the item in, upload your photos, create a title, and fill in the details. Don’t worry about forgetting any details as eBay has a comprehensive form that you just fill in the blanks.  Set your starting price, auction length, and then list it. Now the fun happens!

  1. Watch your auction

Over the course of your auction, keep an eye on it in case prospective sellers want to ask you questions. Answer them back as soon as possible to grab any possible bids.

  1. Send your invoice

When your auction ends, you will get an email notification. Go to your home page and click “send invoice” to fill out the PayPal form that will be sent to your buyer.

  1. Ship your item

Once the payment comes in, you are ready to ship your item. Ship in a timely manner, and don’t forget to package the item well. It may be traveling far! Once your auction is complete and the item is sent, feel free to leave the buyer feedback. If you had a great experience, they are likely to do the same for you. This is important for new sellers especially because a good feedback rating will help build your credibility and buyers will be more apt to buy from you.

Don’t let the shipping cost scare you if that is the case. You’re not the one to pay for the shipping, but your customers.

8. Drop shipping

Selling drop ship product on eBay is another way to boost your earnings. You no longer spend money on packaging your products and shipping them to your customers; your drop shippers take care of that. The only thing left for you is profit.

Selling on eBay is fun and easy. Give these steps a try and create an account for yourself. In no time you will be selling like a pro!

HOW TO START ONLINE STORE

START YOUR ONLINE STORE TODAY

Starting an online store has advantages over having a physical store front: there’s no rent to pay, and you can reach millions of customers from the comfort of your own home. To have a shot at success, however, it’s a good idea to put as much thought into starting an online store as you would for any other business. You’ll need a great product, a user-friendly website, and a solid marketing plan. Read on to learn how to get started.
STEP ONE – DEVELOPIN G YOUR PRODUCT AND BUSINESS PLAN

1. Decide what you want to sell
If you want to start an online store, you probably already have an idea for a great product to sell. Keep in mind that certain things are conducive to selling well online, while other items may be more difficult to sell when they can’t be viewed in person. In any case, you should believe passionately in the value of your product – otherwise, it will be hard to connect with customers. Here are some questions to consider:
• Is it a physical product that needs to be shipped, or is it a digital product that can be sent through the Internet?
• Are you going to have an inventory (more than one) of each product, or will they be one-of-a-kind (e.g. artwork, vintage items)?
• Are you going to want to sell a wide variety of products, or do you plan to specialize, like selling just t-shirts or books?
• Are you creating the product yourself? If so, make sure you’ll be able to keep up with demand. Form a relationship with a reliable supplier.
• If you don’t plan to make the product yourself, you’ll need a good manufacturer. Research different companies to find the one that works for your business idea.
• Decide how your product will be shipped. Create a plan to ship the product from your home efficiently, or work out a storage and shipping plan with a warehouse. You could also look into drop-shipping if the product is being manufactured by a third party.
• You are going to be intimately involved with your product or service. In order to effectively spread the word and market your store, you are going to need to socialize with people from this industry. Make sure the product is something you can get behind for the long haul.
2. Find a niche
Knowing what product you want to sell is only part of creating a successful online store. You’ll need to figure out what differentiates your services from all the other similar services people can choose, both in person or online. Why should a customer buy your hand-knit sweaters when they have 100 other online shops to choose from?
• Size up the competition. Don’t just jump into selling a certain product line until you’ve looked at the websites you’ll be competing with. Consider the main online marketplaces you plan to advertise your products; and check out the competition within those portals.
• Offer something truly original. If you’re selling handmade crafts or works of art, the originality of your work may itself be the draw that sets your product apart. Try to strike a balance between something that is highly original and also has general appeal.
• Offer expertise. Perhaps the quality that sets your company apart from the rest will be your expertise on the type of product you are selling. Maybe you’re a former baseball pro selling a line of baseball gloves, for example. Make your passion and expert knowledge part of the package.
• Offer a user-friendly purchasing process. Even if your product is very similar to other things for sale online, you can set your store apart by making the shopping experience fun and easy. Make sure your website is easy to navigate and fun to share. Be responsive and provide great customer service where others don’t.

3. Test the waters by selling your items on a small scale
In the real world, it’d be wise to try selling your products through other, low-commitment avenues (consignment, flea markets, craft shows, etc.) before taking the plunge and starting an entire store. The same is true for selling online. Try selling your items individually on eBay, Craigslist, Half.com and the like. Here’s what you’ll want to look for:
• Who is buying your product? Offer a discount coupon or free gift if they answer a brief survey. Find out where else they shop online.
• How much are they willing to pay? Experiment with different prices.
• How is customer satisfaction? This is a good time to test how well you can get your product to the customer. Are you using good packaging? Is the shipping method reliable? Are they happy with their product? Did you describe it well?

4. Make a business plan
Before you start the process of opening your online store, take the time to draw up a detailed business plan, whether or not you’re planning on getting outside funding from investors. It will help you plan the steps you’ll need to take to make your business successful. Figure out your cost of operation and map out a marketing strategy. You’ll want to take these factors into account:
• Production costs, whether you’re creating your product yourself or contracting with a manufacturer.
• Shipping costs.
• Taxes.
• Employee wages, if applicable.
• Fees for reserving your domain name and web hosting service.

5. Register your business according to your state’s laws. When you’re ready to make things official, you’ll need to come up with a business name and fill out the necessary legal and tax paperwork to register your business.
STEP TWO – BUIDING YOUR OWN ONLINE STORE

1. Register a domain name
Choose a name that’s short, catchy, and easy to remember. It should also be unique, since the most obvious names are already taken. Look up a domain registration company and try different names until you find one that satisfies you and isn’t already in use.
• If the name your heart is set on is already taken, get creative. Spell numbers out, add a small extra word or try hyphenation.
• The domain registration service will provide suggestions for close alternatives if the name you want is taken.

2. Choose a web hosting service
It’s worth finding a good service for your website, since the site is the backbone of your online store. If it’s finicky, sales will certainly suffer. Free web hosting services are available, but since you’re selling products online, you’ll need to pay for a service that offers the options you need.
• You’ll need enough space for growth if your business does well.
• Choose a hosting service that allows for customization if you’re planning on doing your own programming.

3. Design your website. Either design the website on your own or hire a web designer to create it for you. The emphasis should be on showcasing your product and making it as easy as possible for customers to make a purchase. Don’t fall into the trap of making the website too flashy – the more straightforward, the better when it comes to online shopping.
• Include a way to gather email addresses, so you can send advertisements and special offers.
• The customer should have to make no more than two clicks to check out with a product.
• Choose just a few colors and fonts to use.

4. Choose e-commerce software
This allows customers to view products and make a secure purchase. The software stores customer information and financial information. In some cases, e-commerce software factors into marketing, since it can be used to send emails to customers. Take a lot of time to research companies before making a choice, since the one you choose will play a huge role in your customers’ experience and your company’s success.

5. Set up a merchant account
You’ll need to set up an account with a bank financial institution so that your customers can pay with credit cards. Going with a bank can be pricey, so many small online store owners go with PayPal as a less expensive option.

STEP THREE – USING AN AL- INCLUSIVE E-COMMERCE SERVICE
.
1. Research all-inclusive e-commerce services
If you don’t have the inclination to set up your own website from scratch, there are plenty of services that offer a platform for an online store you can set up in just a few hours, for a very low cost. This way you will not have to learn how to code or hire a web designer, and you’ll have all the tools you need to start selling your product right away.
• All-inclusive services usually take a small cut from each sale you make.
• The services have benefits, but there are also limitations, since you have to operate within their systems. Get familiar with the different services before choosing one. If you don’t find one that suits the business model you have in mind, reconsider starting a new online store on your own.
2. Consider general e-commerce services
Companies like Shopify and Yahoo! Stores will allow you to set up professional-looking online storefronts when you ship your own inventory. Hosted e-commerce solutions go further to provide storefront design, secure payment, hosting, mailing lists, selling statistics, customers support. This is attractive for those who don’t want to do their own programming.

3. Look into reselling products for a profit
Affiliate store services such as Amazon eStores LLC allow you to resell products carried by Buy.com and other merchants by writing reviews of products and focusing on a theme that makes consumers’ lives easier. Amazon eStores stores allow you to get running quickly, but don’t allow you to carry your own physical inventory.

4. Take eBay to the next level
If you’ve already sold some stuff on eBay, and you’re confident that most of your customer base will find you there, then you can “graduate” to an eBay store to save money on listing fees.
• If you haven’t used eBay before, this approach may not be for you, since it’s best to start with an existing customer base. Your customers will need to be web-savvy enough to feel comfortable using eBay.
• Note that eBay tends to attract people searching for bargains and one-of-a-kind items.

5. Consider Tips for general sales
Tips is an online marketplace where you can post one item or create an entire catalog for free. You upload some photos, describe the items and price them to sell. It’s free to post goods for months without having to update the listing. When the item sells and is $35 or less, it’s a 5% fee. If the item is $35 or more, the fee is 3%. On top of putting goods up for sale you can embed videos, blog about your products and services and connect to your twitter account directly from the site for free.

6. Try Cafepress if you’re selling customized items
Cafepress is a service worth considering if you’re selling mostly t-shirts, and other stuff you can “stamp” with your unique designs, such as mugs, stickers, and buttons. Customers browse your store, order their stuff, and Cafepress processes the order and the items for you. You can start a basic shop for free, and pay a monthly subscription for more features.

7. Sell crafts on Etsy
Etsy is a popular choice for people who make what they sell. There’s a 20 cent charge for every item listed, and Etsy keeps 3.5% of your sale price if the item is sold. You get paid directly and are responsible for shipping the item. You’re charged fees (depending on what sold) on a monthly basis.[5]

8. Try selling on Instagram
Instagram is world’s most rapidly growing social network with highly engaged audience that is great for selling fashion items, handmade goods and products for home. Upload pictures of your items for sale to Instagram and then sync your account with inSelly.com to create personal online shop from Instagram pictures. Payments will be powered by PayPal, service doesn’t take membership fees or sales commissions.
STEP FOUR – ATTRACTING AND RETAINING CUSTOMERS

1. Promote your store on Facebook and Twitter
Social media platforms are an important way for businesses, especially online businesses, to market themselves. Start an account and encourage people to “like” and “share” your store’s page to spread the word.
• Offer incentives for customers to promote your store. You could offer a discount or a free giveaway for those who participate.
• Be sure to keep the accounts up to date with information on new products and deals.

2. Start a blog
Pairing your products with expert knowledge is a great way to attract more people to your site. If your product is fashion-related, start a style blog that features some of your products from time to time. Find a way to participate in online conversations related to the product you are selling.
• Some all-inclusive services offer a blog feature as part of your “storefront.”
• Feature other companies’ products on your blog, and ask them to feature yours in return. This is a common practice among small online vendors.
• Send samples of your product to prominent bloggers or websites that do product reviews.
• Do guest posts on other people’s blogs. For example, if you’re selling homemade cookie mix, debut your product on a prominent baking blog.

3. Email customers about promotions
Use an email program like MailChimp to organize customer email addresses and send well-formatted email blasts informing customers about special deals. Don’t abuse this method of getting in touch with customers, though – they may end up unsubscribing if you send emails too often.

Money cannot hinder you from starting your online boutique, you don’t even need any money to start with, the only requirement is your determination to succeed. As I walk you through this article step by step, even before you’re through with this post, your online store will be ready.

Do you know what we are going to do now? I know you don’t know so let me tell you. We are going to create a perfect online boutique now with Storenvy. Storenvy is an e-commerce platform to create a store with no money. The only charge storenvy charge you is, once your products are been sold, they collect ten (10) percent from your money while you keep 90 percent for yourself.

STEP ONE – GETTING STARTED

  1. Method

You have to choose which type of method to use for your store before starting.

Which type of method are you going to use? Is it drop shipping method or you have your own product to list on your store? Let me assume that you don’t have any product. So our method now will be drop shipping.

  1. Contact a drop shipper/manufacturer/supplier

The best place to find a drop shipper is on Ali express. Once you are in ali express platform, type in the search box “drop shipper” then check out the product you want to sell on your store, after that contact the seller, asking him if he can drop ship for you. Definitely, he will. In terms of shipping, always chose the epacket method which is faster. Epacket method shipping takes 15 – 20 days delivery (at least 30 days).

Want to know more about drop shipping? Check out my post How to start a drop shipping

STEP TWO – CREATE YOUR ONLINE STORE

  1. Here comes the exciting part, creating your online store. To start, go to storenvy.com and create your store. Chose your payment method, (stripe or Paypal) for me I use Paypal.
  2. Upload your products photos.

To upload products on your store is not difficult and is easy to do. All you have to do is go to your account on Ali express, download the products images from your drop shipper store on Ali express and upload it on your own store, copy and paste the product description, you can still go further by adding your own description to it if you feel like.

  1. Start promoting your store

Like some persons believe, once you upload your product buyers will come! No, it does not work that way, you have to promote your store to make sales.
